JUNE 2004 BOARD MINUTES

 

The Fjordland Lodge Board met on June 14 at the Brookings Public Library at 7:00 pm with 11 officers present and President Marge Grorud presiding. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as printed. 

 

MOTION: To pay the bills presented to the Treasurer for the Syttende Mai Banquet. Motion 2nd and passed.

 

Officers, Directors and Committee chairman reports were given.  Jam will be on sale at the next meeting.  The Viking Ship will be in the July 4th parade in Brookings.  Six members of our Lodge will be entering exhibits in the Folk Art Exhibition/Competition at the District 1 Convention in Rapid City. 

 

MOTION:  To buy $20 in raffle tickets for the International Convention and sell the other $20 worth at the next Lodge meeting, and forego purchasing an ad in the International Convention Program.  Motion 2nd and carried.

 

MOTION:  For Judeen Johnson to contract with Foreman Bus Line to plan a bus trip to the Høstfest in Minot in October.  Motion 2nd and carried.

 

Changes in By-laws and resolutions to be voted on at the District 1 Convention were discussed. 

 

Meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.

JUNE LODGE MINUTES

 

The June 22 meeting was called to order by President Marge Grorud at the County Resource Center at 7:30 pm with 81 members and 3 guests present.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the 3 National Anthems were sung.  The minutes were approved as printed in the newsletter. 

 

Cindy Ostlie is a new member.  Judeen Johnson reported on an October Minot Høsfest bus trip.  Sam Hatlestad and Barbara Hoium reported on the District Convention.  “Teamwork Makes the Difference” was the theme.  Marge Grorud and Dennis Quissell, with Carol Jung as alternate, are the International Convention delegates. 

 

Annie Larson taught us 5 minutes of Norwegian.  The following awards were received at the District Convention:  President’s Merit Award for ‘02 and ‘03 to Phyllis Sander, Lodge of the Year, Founder’s Certificate, Gold Merit Award for ‘02 and ’03, and “Helping Hands to Children Grant” to Linda Vaa ($500.00 to Nordic Nimble Feet). Cultural pins were presented to 9 members.

 

Board meeting will be July 12 at the Library; no Sewing in July and August. Happy Birthday was sung to 5 members; Alice Johnson won the $5.00 door prize.

 

Photo Albums were shared by members as a way to fulfill the 2004 goal of members getting to know each other better.

 

Meeting was adjourned.

NORWAY, 1905-2005” ESSAY CONTEST

 

      The Norwegian Researchers and Teachers Association of North America (NORTANA) is having an essay contest for university and college students in North America to mark Norway’s upcoming centennial anniversary. Submitted essays should address significant ways in which Norway or a Norwegian has had international impact since 1905.
