Greetings!

The 52nd District #1 Convention in Rapid City is behind us.  Fjordland’s past two years’ achievements kept me busy accepting awards.  Fjordland won “The 2003 Lodge of the Year” for Lodges over 200 members.  I believe there are 22 Lodges in that category, so it is something to be very proud of.  Phyllis Sander was president in 2002-2003.  To win this award it takes good leadership and every member in our lodge contributing their best. Congratulations to all of us!  I want to thank the members who baked cookies, Sam Hatlestad & Barbara Hoium for reporting and recording the event, members who submitted items for the Cultural Fair, and to the Delegates and spouses who took the time to represent us.  A challenge was issued at the Convention.  “Have every Sons of Norway member invite 4 people to join.”  Make a list of family and friends, bring them to a lodge meeting and ask them to join.  Let’s try it!

This newsletter will serve us for July/August.  The July picnic, 6:30 p.m., will be held inside our beautiful air-conditioned and no bugs Brookings Co. Resource Center room. Norm Midthun, who flew the King of Norway around during the war, will be our speaker. The August 6:30 pm meeting will be special.  We have invited members from the Watertown and Madison Lodges to join us as Norma Hanson and her crew take you through “The Ellis Island Experience”. We’ll top off the evening with pie & ice cream.

Late Summer and Fall 2004 will be an exciting time for us.

  1.   Karolyn & Harold Anderson are working on bring a Singing/Dance group from Ringabu, Norway to Brookings on September 29th.   The ink is not on the contract yet, but I want you to pencil them in on your calendar for the afternoon of the 29th since we will not have a newsletter until September.

2.   Our yearly Fund Raiser is scheduled for October 2. There will be Delicious Waffles served at the “Old Sanctuary” in Brookings.

3.   Judeen Johnson is scheduling another bus trip for us.  You can go to the Høstfest!

4.   The Nordic Nimble Feet are going to have a dance workshop; ask Linda Vaa for

details.

5.   Norma Vanderpan is planning a fund raiser for the Foundation and District #1

Scholarship for the October meeting.  Crafters, gardeners, & bakers--now is the

time to plan your projects to help raise money for these two worthy causes.

Please take the time to read all the articles in our Newsletter and mark your calendar so you don’t miss an event. Have a Good Summer.

Fraternally, Marge Grorud
